Welcome to Year 2

Year 3 is taught by Mrs Johnson and is supported by Mrs Harris, Mrs Holden and Miss Harding. We are so excited to welcome your children to our class and begin our new work this year. This is an exciting time as your child, who will be in KS2 for the first time. Some children may find the new routines a bit daunting, but we will be there to guide them through all these changes.

Here is some key information which may help with the transition and provides further information about our weekly routines.

Physical Education:

Monday and Wednesday

The children will need their full kit for all of their PE lessons. Any child who has pierced ears will either need to remove these or they will need to bring plasters into school.

Reading:

Children are expected to bring their book and reading record to school everyday.  Reading diaries will be monitored weekly. It is expected that children are reading and/or sharing a book each day at home. It is important that reading records are kept up to date with a signature and page number. This will help staff to ensure books are changed regularly. Children will also select their own reading book from the school library which they want to share with an adult at home. Can you please encourage and support their love of reading.

Spellings:

As a class we practice our spellings daily which helps to build our reading and writing skills. On a Tuesday and Thursday the children will come home with an activity in their spelling journals to reinforce any learning we have done that day. Spelling Journals need to be returned the next day with their activity completed. All the words to be learnt by the children over the half term are contained within the Spelling Journal along with strategies to support your child.

Homework:

Homework will be given out on Friday and will be due to be handed in the following Thursday.

Children can attend homework club on Wednesdays if this will help with them completing their tasks.
