Welcome to Thorn Primary, where every child is encouraged to dream big, explore their curiosity, and grow with confidence.

At our school, we provide a warm, inclusive environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Our dedicated staff work closely with families to ensure each child reaches their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.

As headteacher, I am proud of our vibrant school community and the joyful learning that happens here every day. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Thorn.

Warm regards,

Alison Edgar - Headteacher

A warm welcome to Thorn Primary: a place where every child is valued, supported and challenged to achieve their very best.

Here at Thorn, we are passionate about the power of lifelong learning and have ambition for all. Our curriculum is designed to instil a sense of curiosity and wonder in the world while fostering independence and resilience. We have a tremendously spacious site which offers a fabulous environment for our pupils to explore their potential and release it.

I am thrilled to be part of our thriving school and its dedicated community who put Thorn’s children at the heart of all we do.

I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure they flourish.

Best wishes,

Leah Riding - Deputy headteacher

Respect

We foster a culture of kindness, honesty, and empathy. Every member of our school community is valued and heard. We teach our children to respect themselves, others, and the world around them, helping them grow into thoughtful and responsible individuals.

Self-Confidence

We help every child believe in themselves and their abilities. Through encouragement, celebration of effort, and opportunities to shine, we build resilience and a positive mindset. With growing self-confidence, our pupils learn to take risks, express themselves, and embrace new challenges.

Motivation and Curiosity

We encourage children to be enthusiastic, engaged learners who are eager to discover the world around them. By nurturing curiosity and a love of learning, we help them stay motivated to explore new ideas, persevere through challenges, and take pride in their progress. Inspired learners are lifelong learners.

Teamwork

We believe that working together makes us stronger. Our children learn the value of cooperation, communication, and shared success. Through collaboration in the classroom and beyond, we build a sense of trust, mutual support, and collective responsibility—skills that will serve them for life.

Resilience and Perseverance

We believe that resilience and perseverance are key to lifelong success. Our children learn to face challenges with courage, determination, and a positive mindset. Through setbacks and achievements, they grow stronger, develop grit, and understand the value of effort and persistence—skills that will guide them through school and beyond.

Independence

We empower our children to become confident, self-motivated learners. Through encouragement and support, we help them take ownership of their learning, make positive choices, and develop the resilience to face challenges. Independence builds the foundation for future success both in and beyond the classroom.
