Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 is taught by Miss Stokes and is supported by our wonderful teaching assistants; Mrs Proctor, Mrs Wilkinson, Miss Tattersall, Mrs Rushton and Miss Melvin. We are excited to welcome your children to year 1 and start their KS1 journey. This is an exciting time as your child will be in KS1 for the first time and learn lots of new skills. Some children may find the new routines a bit daunting, but we will be there to guide them through all these changes.
Here is some key information which may help with the transition and provide further information about our weekly routines.
Physical Education:
Monday and Friday
The children will need their full kit for their PE lessons. Any child who has pierced ears will either need to remove these or they will need to bring plasters into school.
Forest School
For the first five weeks, we will have our Forest School sessions. These will take place every Thursday afternoon with Mrs Carter. We have everything we need in school for this including puddle suits and wellies!
Reading:
Children are expected to bring their book and reading record to school everyday. Reading diaries will be monitored weekly. It is expected that children are reading and/or sharing a book each day at home. It is important that reading records are kept up to date with a signature and page number. This will help staff to ensure books are changed regularly. Children will also select their own free reading book from a selection from the school library which they want to share with an adult at home. Can you please encourage and support their love of reading.
Homework:
Homework will be given out on Friday and will be due to be handed in the following Thursday.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to us.
