Safeguarding
At Thorn Primary, safeguarding and child protection are at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive environment where every child feels secure, listened to, and respected. Our staff are fully trained and committed to recognising and responding to concerns promptly and effectively. By working closely with families and external agencies, we ensure the well-being of all our pupils and uphold are duty of care. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility - and at Thorn Primary, it's a responsibility we take seriously.
We have three designated safeguarding leads (DSL): Mrs A Edgar; Miss L Riding; Mrs R Boulton.

Prevent Agenda
At our school, PSHE and RE play a key role in helping children stay safe, respectful, and open-minded. We teach pupils to value diversity, think for themselves, and understand the world around them. Through these subjects, children learn about different beliefs, how to build positive relationships, and how to stay safe—both in real life and online. This helps protect them from harmful influences and supports our commitment to the Prevent duty, promoting respect, kindness, and British values.
Encompass
Our school is part of the Operation Encompass partnership with Lancashire Police and local agencies. This scheme ensures that schools are informed promptly if a child has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident outside school hours. The aim is to provide timely support to help the child feel safe and ready to learn. Information is shared securely and only when necessary to safeguard the child’s wellbeing.
