Welcome to EYFS
EYFS is taught by Miss Connell and supported by Miss Edwards and Miss Tattersall.
Welcome to our Reception Class, where your child’s exciting educational journey begins. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children develop curiosity, creativity, independence, and a love for learning.
We believe that every child is unique and should be encouraged to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. Our approach is child-centred, play-based, and designed to support both personal development and academic progress.
The EYFS is the curriculum framework for children from birth to five years old in England. In Reception, we focus on building the foundations for future learning through a mixture of adult-led activities and child-initiated play.
Children learn best when they are deeply engaged and motivated. Through our carefully planned environment and meaningful interactions, we support children to become confident, resilient, and capable learners.
By the end of the Reception year, most children will be assessed against the Early Learning Goals. These goals help us to understand your child’s development and readiness for Year 1. They are grouped into seven areas of learning:
Prime Areas:
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Specific Areas:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Here is some key information which may help with the transition and provides further information about our weekly routines.
Physical Education:
PE will take place on Wednesday with Mrs Carter.
The children will need their full kit for all of their PE lessons. Any child who has pierced ears will either need to remove these or they will need to bring plasters into school.
Reading:
Children are expected to bring their book and reading record to school everyday. Reading diaries will be monitored weekly. It is expected that children are reading and/or sharing a book each day at home. It is important that reading records are kept up to date with a signature and page number. This will help staff to ensure books are changed regularly. Children will also select their own reading book (free reader book) from the school library which they want to share with an adult at home. Can you please encourage and support their love of reading.
Homework:
Homework will be given out on Friday and will be due to be handed in the following Monday.
Homework will be a small, fun activity linked to our topic work or something to bring in and share with the class. It’s designed to be enjoyable and help children talk about their learning at home.
